Ladies Choice...Mom's Balti Guide

Ladies Choice...Mom's Balti Guide

 Mom

I'm willing to bet a million balti bowls that there is only one other balti goer in the world that has eaten more Birmingham Balti than Dad and that is my Mom!

A quiet sidekick of Dad's weekly and at times twice weekly balti nights for over 40 years, mom has very discerning tastes and as a butcher's daughter doesn't mince her words! It struck me that in the last 4 decades of people and press asking Dad's opinion on where to eat a balti, no one has ever asked my Mom. And let's face it, Mom's are always right, yeah?!

So...a quick fire interview with the Balti King's Queen on her hot and spicy take on where the best balti can be found!

First Birmingham Balti ?  Royal Naim, Stratford Road in the 80's, had meat samosa followed by chicken korma & shared nan bread. Restaurant owned by 2 lovely brothers who gave all the ladies a carnation! The kids first experience of balti.

Best starter of all time?  Meat samosa in Royal Naim.

Best current starter? Chicken tikka at Shahi Nan

Best balti of all time? Methi Ghost at Al Frash in 90's.

Best balti currently? Chicken & Mushroom korma at Shababs.

Best nan? Garlic nan at Shababs.

Best atmosphere ever? Punjab Paradise (managed by Shabaz) in 80's people queuing to get in!
