UNESCO Birmingham Balti Bid

“If London boasts jellied eels, then the Birmingham balti can knock the spots off it.”

APAB - The Association For The Protection of Authentic Balti, have submitted a bid to UNESCO for official recognition as a dish of intangible cultural heritage to Birmingham. The bid is being led by Balti Author and Secretary of APAB, Andy Munro. Details of the bid can be found in Andy's interview with The Sunday Times.

 

Talking alongside legendary Balti chef Zaf Hussain who proudly noted that;

“Curry came over from India and Pakistan ..but the balti was born in Birmingham.” ,”

More than anything, both men want to see the balti, and the city and the people who made it, take its place in history.
